Liquid adhesives, also called bonding
adhesives are a popular way to attach
hair systems for both daily and extended
wear.
Liquid adhesives are applied using
either a brush, dab-on or squeeze
application. There are water base
and solvent based adhesives for hair
system. The easiest way to identify a
solvent liquid toupee adhesive is by its
color, which will always be clear.
Water based hairpiece glue are white,
but turn clear when they are completely
dry. This makes water based a little
easier to work with because you can tell
when it’s dry – though it does take
longer to dry than solvent-based
adhesives.
With
all adhesives it is recommended that the
hair and scalp be clean and antiseptic
should be used to remove all foreign
material from the area.
The hair piece glue application is
simple. You brush on the glue on the
outer base, usually has a bonding area
in the parameter of the hair piece or
wig base. Wait a few minutes before
placing wig or hair piece on head.
Allow 10 minutes more for complete
contact. The real trick when using the
hair piece adhesives on your hair
system is to know when they're dry so
you will get a strong bond. Do not
attach the hair piece unit too soon.
In addition use just enough of the
glue but not too much to eliminate the
"seep through" glue.
Applying a very thin coat or layer
of liquid adhesive first makes it
easier and quicker to dry but also
prevents the adhesive from seeping
through the base into your hair after
you attach the unit.
Water-based hairpiece adhesives are
white when you put them on, but turn
clear when dry so it's much easier to
tell than if you are using
solvent-based.
When using any type of liquid
bonding it is recommend using a
hair dryer with a lower heat setting
to expedite the drying time of each
coat.
Hairpiece and toupee tape adhesives
used for hair system attachment are
double-sided and most are commonly
referred to as “surgical” or “medical
grade” adhesive strips. The strips are
available in various shapes to fit the
front hairline and outer edge of many
popular hair systems.
Use solvent made specifically for the
adhesive product you use to remove
adhesive residue.
