Hair Loss Symptoms Vs Normal Hair Loss Condition

If you are experiencing hair loss, baldness, or thinning hair symptoms, you are like millions of American men and women who suffer from hair loss. Hair loss baldness or thinning hair causes are common concerns for both men and women. The normal hair re-growth process slows or stop, and thinning or baldness areas may occur.

Shedding up to 100 hair a day is considered normal. In a normal hair growth cycle, as hair fall out naturally, it is replaced by a new hair from the same follicle located just beneath the skin surface and new hair grow in. As we age, the hair re-growth process may slow or stop, and thinning or baldness areas may occur.

Abnormal Hair Loss, Excessive Hair Loss

Excessive hair loss can be seen in women post childbirth. Within two to three months after delivery, excessive hair loss may be seen on brushes and combs. This is normal in most cases and hair will grow back to the original state after several months. There are many hair loss symptoms and conditions that are not part of normal hair growth cycle. One that is most common but is not a health risk is male pattern baldness. In male pattern baldness, the hair loss generally is gradual. The hair usually thins out first in the front of the scalp hairline and forehead and moves progressively to the back and top of the head. It tends to be progressive, and in many eventually, only hair around the ears, the sides, and back of the head remains, as an horseshoe-shaped pattern that leaves the crown of the head exposed.

Women with pattern baldness rarely develop into a complete front bald area as men do. Women typically have gradual hair thinning throughout the scalp. Women's hair loss is experienced as a diffuse thinning of their hair. Male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness are part of aging and genetic traits of a person. It is very common condition and is not considered an illness.

Temporary Hair Loss Causes

Temporary excessive hair loss may be initiated by medications, such as blood pressure drugs, Beta Blockers for depression, oral contraceptives as Estrogens, Naproxin Sodium (Nuprin) and others. Also, excessive intake of iron or vitamin A is toxic and can cause hair loss. Some illnesses may lead to thinning hair, including thyroid disease, overactive or underactive thyroid gland,  ringworm, syphilis, and even high fever. Diseases, such as circulatory disorders and arthritis are factors of hair loss.

Did you know... If you see sudden male hair loss, you should first check with your family doctor or internist. A dermatologist will treat skin infections that cause hair loss. It may be necessary for you to see an endocrinologist for hormone imbalances, namely androgens. A doctor can offer medical treatment to improve the hair loss condition.
